While several different types of gongs are examined, the course will focus on the large Paiste gong.<\/p>\n<p>Topics include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overview of gong types<\/li>\n<li>Effects of the gong on the body and mind<\/li>\n<li>The physical energy dynamics of a vibrating gong<\/li>\n<li>The sonic properties and dynamics of a vibrating gong<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the tonal regions of the gong<\/li>\n<li>Choosing the proper mallets<\/li>\n<li>Specific mallet techniques and exercises<\/li>\n<li>Building chords by \u201clayering\u201d tones<\/li>\n<li>Working with spin and swing<\/li>\n<li>Staging a gong bath session<\/li>\n<li>Gong improvisation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students will be given specific techniques and exercises that they can practice on their own.
